Goldendoodle Puppies & Adults
What is a Goldendoodle?
The Goldendoodle is a cross between a Golden Retriever and a miniature or standard Poodle. These gentle, fluffy dogs are extremely popular dogs for anyone looking to add a new member to their family!
How Big are Goldendoodles Puppies?
Depending on the stain of Poodle bred with the Golden Retriever, Goldendoodles come in three different sizes:
- Miniature--15 to 30 pounds
- Medium--30 to 45 pounds
- Standard--45 to more than 100 pounds
Likewise, the height of Goldendoodles ranges between 14 and 24 inches on average, although they can sometimes be larger or smaller. The wide variance in sizes allows you to find the exact size you want based off of your personal needs or preferences.
Goldendoodle Coat & Grooming
Depending on the percentage of Golden Retriever or Poodle genes that they carry, Goldendoodles can carry a number of different coats. Those with a higher percentage of Retriever tend to have slightly shaggier and straighter hair, whereas those with a higher percentage of Poodle tend to have softer, curlier hair. Both forms of coats make these dogs very beautiful, but also come with a higher level of maintenance.
Goldendoodles should be groomed with a brush at least once every other day, and should be clipped/trimmed every 8 to 12 weeks. Those with more Poodle genes tend to require a little more maintenance due to their curlier hair.
Goldendoodles also tend to be hypoallergenic, which makes them a fantastic option for anyone who struggles with dog allergies. In that case, those with more Poodle-like coats tend to be the preferred option.
What is the Temperament or Personality of Goldendoodles?
Goldendoodles are some of the most sweet and loving dogs you can find. They are great with families, although they can be a little shy around smaller kids. They are very playful and fun dogs and enjoy a healthy dose of attention from their owners. You should try to take your Goldendoodle on a walk or actively play with them at least once a day. At our facilities here in Oklahoma at Furever Friends, we pride ourselves on creating long lineages of well-tempered dogs by maintaining well-trained and loved parent dogs, as well as making an effort to socialize our puppies well in their foundational weeks before going to their new homes.
How hard are Goldendoodles to train a Goldendoodle Puppy?
Goldendoodles are highly intelligent dogs which, along with their natural playfulness and eagerness to please, gives them great potential to be trained. These dogs respond very well to reinforcement training techniques such rewarding them with praise or treats. However, as with any breed, it is important to start training your puppy as soon as you bring him home. Even at a very young age, these intelligent dogs can absorb more information than you think.
What is the Health of Goldendoodles?
Of course, all dog breeds have the potential to develop health issues over time. However, Goldendoodles are naturally rather healthy dogs and have an average lifespan of 10 to 15 years. Here at Forever Friends, we also offer a Health Guarantee and adhere to an extremely high standard of health to ensure that all of our puppies go home with their new families healthy & happy.
